Each time I've rewatched this movie I've picked up on new Easter Eggs, foreshadowing, etc. If you pay attention to details the movie can be quite revealing. Which I really love! For example, Richard actually exposes himself cheating on his wife by throwing the baseball out the window when looking for the hidden letter that Harlan wrote. Next, later on, as Blanc and Marta are combing the mansion for clues he throws the baseball for the dogs in the yard but instead, they return the broken lattice, leaving the baseball out in the yard. Finally, near the end of the movie we see Linda returning the recovered baseball to her late father's study. There she finds the letter open and thus revealing Richard being a cheater. Full circle. Like a donut hole within a donut. Also, when Ransom is first revealed to us the dogs are barking at him and jumping on him like crazy. The same testimony we are told that when the dogs were heard barking late at night from when he came back to mess with the medicine bag. Finally, you can also see the painting of Harlan change from having a stoic/concerned look (when Marta is looking at it before her interview with Blanc) and then when the mystery is solved at the end of the movie we can see Harlan smirking/smiling. These are just some of my favorite ones that I noticed! Others include the foreshadowing of the stage prop knife from Harlan and then Ransom stabbing Marta with a stage prop knife and the family getting Marta's nationality wrong every time they mention where she is from. I believe this movie was wonderfully written and shot. I can't wait for the second one to come out.

I'm hungry. The thriller aspect of this movie certainly helps make it more rewatchable. Most Who-done-its feel like theyre only worth watching once. Its too much like a game with clues scattered throughout and the goal is to figure it out before its all over. Once its over there is no need to watch again if you know the answers now. However with Knifes Out, after we are done with the set up and before we are put into clue hunting mode, the movie flips genres not into who-done-it but how-will-she-get-away-with-it. Only coming back to those genre conventions at the end to tie things to together. Its a brilliant approach to help give this otherwise played out genre some new life. Giving the audience a change to experience more than just a game of hunting for clues and actually the thrill ride of a story unfolding.

But that sort of device or whatever you call it is something Ive seen so many times in local movies and tv dramas here where I live (Philippines, Im Filipino and I live in Metro Manila. In Filipino movies and tv shows, usually in romcoms, the rich people would always do this. treating someone who isnt as rich as they are like servants. The corporation-owning parents of the leading man who falls in love with the sales rep girl at the department store would always assume that the dept store girl can be treated as if shes one of their housecleaners or something and they do it All the time its just a boring staple.

When a film has THIS much hype, I find that usually it falls short. With other movies that have had a lot of hype, I found that usually I liked them better if I saw them when they first come out versus waiting months and months for rental and countless reviews. I think most of the time unless a movie is a rare unicorn, like Parasite, there's no way it can live up to the expectations. But then again, I also saw Parasite towards the beginning of its release. We tend to really dissect a movie. This movie has a superb cast of Hollywood icons and a fun, whodunnit premise. It was decent but did not wow me! I wasn't overly impressed with the twists in the storyline. I think the story could have and should have been better for this big of a film. My favorites Toni Colette and Jamie Lee Curtis were completely underutilized in this movie. They are both standouts, horror movie queens and strong actors who lead films and franchises. Director Rian Johnson really should have used this to his advantage and given them more than small background parts. Also, why do we feel the need to set off fireworks and throw a parade when a movie is just decent. Isn't that the goal of all movies anyway? To be good and entertaining? What happened to movies HAVING to be good to be made? Now, if a movie isn't terrible it's shouted from the rooftops as an Oscar shortlist favorite. With the Knives Out sequel, I hope they give the audience more to solve on their own and spoon feed us less of the plot. They can really make an amazing, smart movie.

I guess part of this story is that every element attempts to kill you and then you prove your dominance over it by power flexing Laughs in russian. This is one of the lowest sinned movie i've seen lately around here, and most of them are just really dumb. this movie is fantastic. No one Ransom: craking biscuits.

Two things that you missed (unless you cover it in the end wrap in part 2) 1: the framing of each character in their interview changes and makes the background knife circle's center get closer or further away depending on that characters relationship with Harlan. Additionally, Marta is positioned the same way but framed from the other side, pushing her away from the knives, showing that she's different from the family and is uninvolved with the murder. 2: If you have the Blu-ray, take off the like outer sleeve it's in that has the knife circle overlay and put it on backwards, such that the side of the sleeve that would go with the front side of the case is actually over the back side of the case. The back side of the case has all the characters lined up together, and when you overlay the sleeve, it centers the knives directly on Ransom, showing that he's behind it all.

Amazing cast - looks fantastic. See, this is what happens when you grow a backbone and don't act like a simpleton to cave in to the vanity of an agenda-pushing CEO of a fractured studio.
